Dissecting Alcatraz's Mysteries: Who Is Lucy, Really?

Sarah Jones and Jorge Garcia Lucy is alive! Kind of. Though the third outing of Alcatraz didn't provide an answer as to whether Dr. Lucy Banerjee (Parminder Nagra) woke up from the coma she slipped into following the sniper shooting, we did get a glimpse into her 1960s past on the island. Not only was she a psychologist, but she planned to reform the prisoners of Alcatraz with... memory-erasing experiments?! That's just one of the new mysteries that Alcatraz introduced this week. Let's take a look at the others: Dissecting Alcatraz's Mysteries: How many '63s are working with Hauser? Why doesn't Hauser (Sam Neill) go semi-public with the information about the '63s? When Cal Sweeney (Eric Johnson), a '63, falls back into his old habit of robbing banks, Rebecca (Sarah Jones) & Co. are forced to help him escape lest the cops catch him and figure out who he really is. Sure, it may sound crazy to admit there are some time-traveling convicts on the loose, but maybe if Hauser just filled in a few San Francisco higher-ups, they could catch the '63s quicker. Just us? How did Lucy think she could rewire the prisoners? At Deputy Warden E.B. Tiller's birthday party, Dr. Lucille Sengupta (or Sanguppy, as Dr. Beauregard called Lucy) explains that she plans to get to the root of each of the prisoners' problems by tapping into their memories. By erasing whatever memories that triggered their criminal activity, she believes she can rewire them to be good. But how? Was all the bloodletting from the previous episodes part of the plan? Was Lucy's memory-tampering experiment part of the cause of the '63s' disappearance? Again, what's with the numbers? As evidenced by the first three episodes, the Alcatraz producers seem to have a fascination with the No. 3. Sniper Ernest Cobb (Joe Egender) went on a shooting spree over three days, Kit Nelson (Michael Eklund) kidnapped boys for three days before killing them, and Sweeney wooed three banks tellers to rob three banks. And there's a preoccupation with No. 11: Diego (Jorge Garcia) was kidnapped at age 11, the last time he drove was age 11 and Kit killed 11-year-old boys. Parminder Nagra's reaction to Alcatraz premiere: "Already? You're killing me off?" What's inside the room that the mysterious keys unlock? Whoever is pulling the strings have now sent both Jack Sylvane (Jeffrey Pierce) and Sweeney after large silver keys, even though the two '63s have no idea why they're so important. Hauser has an idea: These keys may be the clue to "how the prisoners jumped." However, the keys are laser-cut and came from a time before that piece of technology existed, so how is that possible? The keys apparently unlock a secret door in the lower part of the prison. Could this be the unexplained "downstairs" that Thomas Madsen (David Hoflin) mentioned in the series premiere? Nominee reaction: Rooney Mara

Although many critics have praised Rooney Mara for making the role in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" all her own, Mara said she still felt the pressure of being compared to Noomi Rapace's work in the Swedish rendition."I think if (Rapace's) performance had been 15 years ago there would still be that pressure (because) it's such an iconic performance and loved by so many people," Mara said. "I had my own idea of what I wanted the role to be. In the end I was able to make it my own and I think (director) David (Fincher) had a lot to do with that." Roseanne Barr among NBC pilot orders

NBC bought three comedy aircraft aircraft pilots Monday, plus a potential comeback vehicle for Roseanne Barr. Barr would star in "Downwardly Mobile" since the proprietor from the rv park and surrogate mother to any or all the initial people who live there in the challenging economy. "Mobile" originates from last century Fox TV with executive producers Eric Gilliland, John Argent and Barr. Gilliland was executive producer in the original "Roseanne," popular for ABC through the the 19 nineties. NBC also bought "Animal Kingdom," only one-camera office comedy devoted to some "House"-like vet who loves animals truly hates their entrepreneurs. From Universal Television and American Work, the half-hour is executive produced by John Gatewood, Alex Tanaka, Scot Remedy and Ravi Nandan. The Next project is yet another single-camera production from Universal TV: "Continue,Inch through which an irreverent yet charming sportscaster tries to proceed in the loss and unwillingly finds surprising solace within the people of his mandatory group therapy periods. Executive producer Scott Silveri may also be an NBC veteran of "Pals" which is spinoff "Joey" he most recently cracked the Peacock selection while using short-were living "Perfect Couples." SAG, AFTRA set name for combined union

Howard Reardon The Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television & Radio Artists will live on as SAG-AFTRA -- should members approve the upcoming merger vote.Leaders of SAG and AFTRA reached agreement on the new moniker as part of the merger proposal that will likely go to members in the next few months, according to sources.The unions announced early Monday that reps had completed the proposal, but gave no specific details other than saying that the national boards would meet on the last weekend of the month to approve sending the referendum to members. Members of both boards will be briefed in a teleconference Sunday. SAG and AFTRA had no comment about the name -- which, like the rest of the proposal, is a non-binding recommendation from The AFTRA and SAG Group for One Union to the national boards. SAG members defeated merger proposals in 1999 and 2003 while AFTRA members supported both. In 2003, the merged union would have been called the Alliance of Intl. Media Artists, which may have been a factor in the defeat. Should the national boards approve, the proposal will be sent to 120,000 SAG members and 70,000 AFTRA members, who include actors, broadcasters, disc jockeys, singers and dancers. About 45,000 performers belonging to both unions. To pass, the referendum would need a 60% approval margin from both orgs among votes cast.People close to the situation have indicated that elections will combine elements of SAG's direct voting structure for some national offices while other national slots will be filled using AFTRA's national convention structure, in which delegates are elected at the local level. A vote for officers is held every other year at the convention.The SAG national board will meet Jan. 27-28 and the AFTRA national board will meet Jan. 28 and on Jan. 29, if necessary. The timetable means that the key details of the proposal -- the name of the combined union and its governance and dues structure -- could be tubthumped during the Jan. 29 SAG Awards ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The SAG prexy traditionally gives an on-air speech during the kudocast.SAG president Ken Howard and AFTRA president Roberta Reardon have made the merger of the two unions their signature issue and received strong support from members in recent elections.The merger proposal was hammered out at a nine-day meeting at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood that wrapped Sunday night. The marathon session had been scheduled to meet the previously announced goal of finishing in time for submission to the national boards at the end of this month.It was fifth official meeting by the AFTRA and SAG Group for One Union since June to work out details such as a name, governance, financing, membership requirements and dues. Other than describing the meetings as productive, the unions have disclosed only general details.SAG's elected leadership has been dominated in recent years by those in favor of a merger, who contend that a combined union would be more powerful and remove jurisdictional overlaps. Opponents within SAG, whose influence has waned in recent years, contend that SAG should remain for actors only.SAG and AFTRA share jurisdiction on primetime TV. After years of bitter disputes, AFTRA split from SAG on joint bargaining in 2008 and negotiated a separate deal a full year before SAG reached an accord -- leading to producers opting to sign with AFTRA for nearly all new shows.It's not yet clear whether SAG national exec director David White or AFTRA national exec director Kim Roberts Hedgpeth will lead the combined union if a merger is approved. White signed an agreement last year that extended his contract into 2014."What we have accomplished over the last year is tremendously gratifying," Howard and Reardon said in a joint statement issued at 4 a.m. Monday. "We are confident our members will agree that we have created something we can all be proud of -- actors, singers, broadcasters, dancers, voiceover artists, background actors, stuntpersons and all entertainment and media professionals that will be represented by this new union. The consensus process allowed our (Group for One Union) members to fully discuss, debate and reach agreement on critical provisions that form a strong foundation for a single union that will protect and strengthen the future for all our members."
